padViaweb Store 4.1 Released

Viaweb Store 4.1 Lets Users Design Web Pages with One Click.

Cambridge, Mass. - 24 February 1998 - Viaweb Inc, developers of the most popular online store software, today announced Viaweb Store 4.1, the first browser-based site builder with one-click design. The new version literally lets users change the graphic design of a site, or the layout of a page, with one button click. For the first time, novice users can create branded online stores with top-quality graphic design.

"Viaweb has always been the easiest e-commerce tool available," said Viaweb president Paul Graham. "Now with version 4.1 a total novice can make a great site. Version 4.1 does everything for you except write the copy."

With its latest release, Viaweb continues to focus on what merchants want from online store software: sites that sell. What makes visitors buy is a truly professional looking site. The new automatic design tools in Viaweb Store 4.1 let anyone make one.

The Look Tool, new in 4.1, lets users choose from 14 predefined graphic looks. But users are not limited to this set. The predefined looks can be modified and combined, yielding thousands of possible looks.

The Layout Tool, also new in 4.1, lets users reorganize a whole page with one click. This new tool-based approach is more powerful than design based on "templates", because it lets users change aspects of the design individually, like in familiar applications like word processing. For the first time, Viaweb 4.1 brings the same flexibility to the design of Web pages.

Version 4.1 also features a new batch interface for sites that need to process high volumes of online credit card authorizations.

Viaweb Store 4.1 is available immediately from Viaweb. Anyone can try Viaweb Store for free for 10 days. After that, merchants pay a single flat fee: $100/month for a store with up to 50 items, $300/month for a store with up to 1000 items, and $100/month for each additional 1000 items.

Viaweb Store lets a non-technical user make an online store in minutes through an ordinary browser. Finished sites are hosted on Viaweb's secure servers. Merchants can log in at any time to edit their sites, retrieve orders, or view statistics.

Viaweb Store has won both industry-wide comparisons of of e-commerce software to date (ZD Internet 7/97, and PC Magazine 11/97). Over 650 companies have built stores with Viaweb Store, including Tweeds, Rolling Stone magazine, Frederick's of Hollywood, International Male, and Dean & DeLuca.
