Viaweb Store 4.0 includes complete suite of Web promotion tools
Cambridge, Mass. - November 17, 1997 - Viaweb Inc, the leading supplier of online store software, today announced Viaweb Store 4.0, the first online store software with support for revenue sharing. Since its release in 1996, Viaweb Store has emerged as the leading end-user online store software. With version 4.0, Viaweb is first to market with tools that enable any merchant to drive sales with revenue sharing deals like those used by Amazon.Com and CDNow.
"Revenue sharing is the hottest trend in online commerce right now," said Viaweb president Paul Graham. "Industry leaders like Amazon are driving sales by giving a percentage to sites that send them traffic. Now Viaweb lets any merchant manage revenue-sharing links."
With its latest release, Viaweb continues to pursue a strategy that has won in almost every software market. Beginning with an easy, inexpensive product, Viaweb has added powerful features that erode the market share of more expensive solutions.
"Viaweb Store was already a popular tool for creating online stores," said Jill Frankle, Senior Analyst at IDC. "Now version 4.0, at the same price point, adds tools that help bring customers into the store."
"Viaweb's revenue-sharing feature has helped us bring in a lot of new customers," said Luis A. Hernandez, Jr., president of MotoBooks Online, the retail books division of Motorcycle Shopper magazine. "In the first four hours, we got over 30 new sites linking to us."
Link Tracker: Viaweb 4.0 lets merchants set up unique links for each referring site, and shows both the merchant and the referring site the sales from each link.
Repeat Customer Detector: Viaweb 4.0 is the first online store software to recognize repeat customers without making them register. It recognizes repeat customers even when their names change due to marriage.
Mailing List Manager: Viaweb 4.0 enables merchants to generate repeat visits through mailing lists with online customer signup.
Customer Registration: Viaweb 4.0 encourages repeat visits by enabling customers to save their shipping and billing information, plus multiple shopping baskets.
Cross-selling: Viaweb's ordering system can generate additional sales by suggesting related products when a customer places an order.
Viaweb Store 4.0 is available immediately from Viaweb. Anyone can try Viaweb Store for free for 10 days. After that, merchants pay a single flat fee: $100/month for a store with up to 50 items, $300/month for a store with up to 1000 items, and $100/month for each additional 1000 items.
Viaweb Store lets a non-technical user make an online store in minutes through an ordinary browser. Finished sites are hosted on Viaweb's secure servers. Merchants can log in at any time to edit their sites, retrieve orders, or view statistics.
Viaweb Store has won both industry-wide comparisons of of e-commerce software to date (ZD Internet 7/97, and PC Magazine 11/97). Over 370 companies have built stores with Viaweb Store, including Tweeds, Rolling Stone magazine, Frederick's of Hollywood, International Male, and Dean & DeLuca.
